However, if you add the baptized membership of all the congregations on the above list, it comes to a net loss for the ELCA of about 177,500 members since August 2009. We know there are about 70 congregations that have voted, but their names are not known to us. Add the baptized members of those churches and you have at least another 75,000. Next, add those members whose congregations voted, but lost the vote, and new congregations have been formed by those who left, and you will come up with several thousand more. But the only way we will know how many left on their own from congregations that did not vote will be through official reports by the ELCA secretary later this year and next year.
