THE ELCA (AND NO ONE ELSE) IS TO BLAME FOR THE TURMOIL FOUND WITHIN ITS CONGREGTIONS – LORD OF LIFE, RAMSEY, MN AND EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN, COKATO, MN

When the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) voted last August to allow practicing homosexual clergy to be placed on its clergy roster, they ignited a firestorm of controversy in thousands of their congregations. Most congregations calling special meetings to vote on leaving the ELCA face bitter division over two opposing views. This is especially true of the congregations that did not achieve the required 2/3s necessary for withdrawal.

Take for example Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Ramsey, Minnesota (3300 baptized members). This congregation voted June 20 to withdraw (310 to 255), but their vote failed to meet the 2/3s requirement. Likewise, when the votes were tallied at their June 23 meeting, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cokato, Minnesota (974 baptized members) split almost down the middle over leaving. Both congregations are now in turmoil from which neither may recover. This is true also for scores of other ELCA congregations, especially were the required voted failed by slim margins and where members left to start new congregations. In such situations, minority members left to operate their ELCA congregation have found it difficult if not impossible to maintain a viable congregation.

The ELCA itself is to blame for all of its congregations in turmoil. The vote last August to sanction homosexual clergy in the ELCA was 559-451. The ELCA leadership saw to it that the vote on this issue would pass with a simple majority. How interesting that a simple majority was sufficient to set the whole church in turmoil, while each local congregation’s vote tally must have a 2/3s plurality in order to leave the ELCA over the same issue.

The ELCA is to blame for this turmoil, because the decision to sanction practicing homosexual clergy within its ranks was on the agenda of the church’s leadership when the ELCA was being formed. The writings and statements of Bishop Herbert Chilstrom bear witness. That fact, along with a host of other doctrinal departures from truth, is what caused hundreds of congregations and clergy to withdraw membership even as the ELCA was coming into being.

Growing Israeli interest in Yeshua (Jesus)

In our last two tours to Israel we encountered several messianic Jews. Surely the witness of the precious gospel of Christ is reaching many Israelis for Jesus. (David Barnhart)

CONGREGATIONS VOTING TO LEAVE ELCA SINCE AUGUST 2009 UPDATE 6/14/10

By our figures and estimates, 450 congregations have voted to leave the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America since August 2009. Of that number, approximately 185 have successfully completed their second vote and are now out of the ELCA. Approximately 150 other congregations have successfully taken their first vote and are awaiting the 90 day period to take their second vote. Listed here are those congregations known to have been successful in their first and/or second vote. Please inform us of any additions or corrections by email: wordabide@aol.com.

Based on a report out of the ELCA office dated June 3, 2010, 419 congregations have voted to leave the ELCA. Of that number 283 passed. However, those figures likely represent churches that voted prior to May 2010, as reported by various synods. Since that time, however, many more congregations have voted. In fact, throughout the coming weeks and months several congregations are scheduled to vote nearly every Sunday.

Based on the above figures and our list of congregations, we believe we are missing at least 80 congregations that have successfully voted to leave. The names of these congregations are very hard to find as there is no national base to report them. If you know of congregations that have successfully voted, please inform us. The ELCA does not want people to know how many congregations have voted out, including some of their largest congregations. For example, last week the ELCA issued a press release concerning one bishop's question over one vote in one congregations that successfully voted out by a single vote margin. The ELCA has yet to report on the successful and overwhleming votes by several of their largest congregations whose memberships range from 2000-6000.

Based solely on our records of congregations that are known to have taken one or two successful votes, the ELCA has lost or will have lost (when the 2nd votes are taken) approximately 150,000 members since August 2009. Add to that number the 80 or so congregations we are missing, plus the natural losses the ELCA has been reporting annually over the last 20 years, and that number will surely double by August 2010.
We urge members who have left their ELCA congregation and joined another congregation to make certain they remove their letter of membership, or else they will go on being counted as members of the ELCA by congregations, synods and the national church. Local congregations are very slow at correcting their membership statistics. These inflated numbers are what the ELCA reports annually.
Another statistic that is not being reported is the number of clergy that have resigned or who are in the process of resigning from the ELCA. We had a letter recently from a retired pastor who resigned his membership on the ELCA clergy roster.
Still another letter came to us recently from one of our Abiding Word Ministries supporters who informed us that he had made legal arrangements to give $2 million to various ELCA institutions, but has recently informed those institutions that the money will not be coming. He stated: "They are not happy."
Additional information regarding these and other matters is available through The Vine and Branches, the newsletter of Abiding Word Ministries. If you are not on our mailing list, contact us at wordabide@aol.com.

State ELCA Lutherans reject church's national stance on sexuality

The reaction among members of the ELCA in opposition to its August 2009 decision to sanction homosexual clergy is encouraging, but the decision itself is not likely to be overturned at the national level. But praise the Lord for South Dakota.

APOSTASY IN UNITED METHODIST SEMINARY

Anyone who believes the God of the Bible and the god of koran are one and the same has never read the Bible and/or the koran. Neither is the Jesus of Scripture the same as the jesus of the koran.

REMEMBER THESE ELCA CONGREGATIONS IN YOUR PRAYERS

According to information we have obtained, the following congregations have called a special meeting Sunday June 13 for the purpose of voting on withdrawing from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). If you know of other churches that are voting in June, please email us the information at wordabide@aol.com. Please keep these congregations in your prayers.

Emmanuel Lutheran, Lodi, CA (second vote)
Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, Columbus, OH (first vote)
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Irvine, CA (first vote)
Zoar Tofte, MN first vote (2nd time)

Abiding Word Ministries is able to report by actual count of known congregations that have voted to leave the ELCA since August 2009, the ELCA will have lost over 200,000 members. Other congregations have scheduled meetings to vote out of the ELCA nearly every Sunday this summer. Over 300 congregations have successfully taken one or both of their two required votes to withdraw from the ELCA.

UN SANCTIONS ARE A FRAUD AND OBAMA KNOWS IT!

Obama is more concerned over Israel's nukes than it is with Iran's. The sanctions being imposed through the UN have holes large enough to send ship loads of missiles and weapons to the country that openly declares its intention of destroying Israel. Russia says the UN sanctions against Iran will not include the missiles they are going to deliver.

READY FOR THE GREAT HOMOSEXUAL IMMIGRATION BILL? IT MAY BE ON ITS WAY!

LIBERTY ALERT...

June 4, 2010
Partisan Politics and Domestic Partnership Provision Will Derail Immigration Bill
http://sol.sparklist.com/t/6027650/61205/76019/0/
Senator Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) proposed immigration bill includes a provision for same-sex domestic partners that would treat them like spouses in a marriage, thus making way for a foreign same-sex partner to become a legal citizen because of their relationship to a U.S. citizen. President Barack Obama supports the objective of this provision, despite the fact that inclusion of domestic partnerships will kill any immigration bill.
"A flawed immigration policy and the failure of the federal government to enforce existing immigration laws pose serious threats to our national security and domestic tranquility," said Mathew Staver, Founder & Chairman of Liberty Counsel. "Any potential consensus for key aspects of immigration may quickly be set back by partisan politics and special interests," Staver continued.

Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference; Dr. Richard Land, President of The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention; Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel; Hon. Kenneth Blackwell, Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations on Human Rights; Lou Engle, Co-founder, The Call to Conscience, and more.

NETANYAHU CALLS WORLD GOV'TS HYPOCRITICAL

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu televised Israel's explanation for the flotilla incident that killed 10 people. He said Israel would never apologize for defending itself. He cited the tons and tons of weapons being smuggled into Gaza by Iran and cautioned Gaza could become a port for Iran.

ANOTHER SNUB OF NETANYAHU BY OBAMA?

Israel National News. com is reporting that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu left for Israel after the Flotilla incident because Obama did not want him defending Israel from the White House. A few minutes after Netanyahu announced he would keep his appointment with Obama at the White House on Tuesday, a second announcement said he would return home. Another amazing stab in Israel's back by Obama if true.
