The publishing arm of the ELCA, Augsburg Fortress recently sent out a letter to hundreds of its retirees and employees stating that their retirement benefits will end March 1, 2010. Leonard Flachman wrote an article published in The Lutheran recently asking where is the ELCA when this disaster is taking place in the lives of so many of its present and former workers.
If the ELCA has no problem spending millions of dollars on sexuality studies, why does it find it to easy to wash its hands of any charitable impulse to aid retirees who devoted their working lives toiling for their publishing firm. What does this say about ELCA priorities?
